Working Out Our Salvation

I was asked to preach this week on a super weird but hopefully profound passage in Philippians where the Apostle Paul says this:

Work out your own salvation with fear and trembling, for it is God who works in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure. (Phil 2:12-18)

What on earth does that mean?
